  • The Southville Winter Flash

Tuesday 15th January saw the inaugural Southville Flash at The Hare in North Street. We'd like to thank all the wonderful writers who attended and helped to make the event a resounding success! All the flash fiction contributions were beautifully written and performed - it's official - Southville has talent! Well done to the Flash winner, Phil Cheatle, and the runner up, Glenn Carmichael. The 'Haiku-Off' on the subject of 'New year Hopes' produced some great entries, made more interesting by frequent visits to the bar! Some of the entries are included below. Thanks again for your support, and hope to see you at the Spring Flash in April!

No snow yet this year New year hopes? Boundless

The work bus arrives on time Chinese calendar? Hebrew?

Sad face behind glass One hope repeated.

    (Simon L) (Tom N)

Once again leaping Ice cold mottled hand

Emerging from winter slumber Warmed by crusted clothes.

ready for embrace. Full belly and water.

    (Anita M) (Grace)

New year off the blocks Leaping or creeping,

On another lap of life - tip-toe with trepidation

roll on chequered flag! arms wide, year begins.

    (Ian) (Anita M)

    Hogmanay, they say

    bring in a new beginning.

    But my head feels old.

    (Paul M)
